School Direct 2017–18 (from September 2017)

Following our success in 2015/16, we are extremely proud to be once again offering flexible, abridged School Direct (salaried) teacher training programmes in Mathematics and Physics from August 2017.

If you are interested in applying for one of these salaried training programmes, applications need to be made via UCAS between October 2016 and June 2017.

The School Direct salaried training programme is a unique route into teaching, aimed at highly experienced and skilled individuals who are already in full or part time employment but who may be considering a career change. Those following this training programme have the capability to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS) in a shorter period of time and for this reason can be awarded their QTS by the end of March 2017.

To support you with this move towards becoming a specialist teacher in Mathematics or Physics, you will be entitled to a salary of £19,000 and will experience classroom based practice in two placement schools. The school based training will be led by experienced staff at St Mary’s, in partnership with Leeds Trinity University allowing you to train alongside serving teachers in an outstanding Academy Trust with the possibility of a job offer on successful completion of the course.

The programme will commence in August 2017; competition for places is expected to be high so early applications are encouraged.

To help overcome barriers, additional support includes:

  • Access to a high quality specialist knowledge enhancement (SKE) course (from May 2017)
  • An £19,000 salary
  • Connections to affordable local childcare provision
  • Access to a dedicated personal tutor
  • The opportunity to access a set aside hardship fund
  • Opportunities to visit other schools in The Bishop Wheeler Catholic Academy Trust to gain school experience prior to application

How to Apply

Applications to both the Maths (abridged) course and the Physics (abridged) course need to be made via UCAS from October 2016.

Apply via the UCAS website (search for Menston in the training provider box)
