School Business Management

Diploma for School Business Management - Level 4 & LEVEL 5

Level 4

This internationally recognised programme for School Business Managers is designed to develop your professional knowledge, understanding and competencies so that you will be able to contribute effectively to key areas of school business management. The DSBM will equip senior administrators and new SBMs with the operational skills required to be an effective School Business Manager. This includes:

  • opportunities to enhance your leadership, administrative and managerial skills
  • a personalised framework to develop your knowledge, understanding of key areas of SBM
  • an opportunity for you to develop your communication skills in a range of contexts
  • access to coaching support to help you engage in reflection on your personal development and the requirements of the school business manager role
  • a foundation for future advanced professional development as a school business manager

Who is it for?

The level 4 DSBM is part of a suite of school business management qualifications. The programme is designed for existing and aspiring school business managers who wish to enhance both their leadership, management and administrative skills together and their knowledge and understanding of key areas of school business management through a professional qualification.

Delivery Model

The programme is delivered over 12 months and comprises three essential modules and three elective modules. The modules are:

Participants have a choice of two learning pathways:

Participants who follow the online learning pathway will have a dedicated coach who will provide them with intensive support throughout the programme.

Assessment

The programme is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). Your learning will be assessed through assignments submitted on completion of each of the five phases of the programme and a work-based project submitted on completion of all modules. The assessment will ensure rigorous coverage of the learning outcomes of each module and a clear focus on the development of professional skills.
You will receive formative feedback on completion of each phase of the programme which contributes to summative assessment. Learners are required to undertake a minimum of 46 credits or a maximum of 48 credits to achieve this qualification.

The full cost of the programme including assessment and certification is:

Online learning pathway - £950

Level 5

This internationally recognised programme for school business managers is designed to develop knowledge, understanding and expertise through varied operational, developmental and strategic modules. The DSBM will equip existing School Business Managers (SBMs) with the expertise to enhance their leadership and managerial skills. This includes:

  • a personalised framework to develop your knowledge and understanding of key areas of SBM
  • an opportunity to develop your oral and written communication skills in a range of contexts
  • access to coaching support to help you engage in reflection on your personal development and the requirements of the school business manager role
  • a means to critically evaluate your own personal and professional effectiveness and to continue your advanced professional development as a school business manager

Who is it for?

The level 5 DSBM is part of a suite of school business management qualifications. It is designed to support the professional learning of those that have completed level 4 or experienced SBMs to enhance their contribution to the leadership and management of schools.

The DSBM programme comprises five phases with ten modules, each carrying equal weight, with the exception of the online induction. There are two delivery models:
